Re: Project Cafe Rocket 686 begins. Finally!

172kg still too heavy by far just to compare, my SZR weighed 167kg complete with heavy, stock seat frame and stock fairing etc my "toy" (1994 Tour) weighed 162 I think it was and the present green Sport weighs 150kg, both with the original tho paired down seat frame. Both of course complet...

Re: Skorpion Rear Sprocket

So in answer to the question that no one asked - don't fit a 14 tooth front sprocket. I don;t know how many times I've cautioned about fitting a 14t cog, certainly not because of the swingarm (tho that is also a reason). First of all, one should never fit a cog with an even number of teeth; that is...

Re: HELP! ! !660 4NN-001451 wiring HELP! ! !

if it really is the Skorpion harness, throw it away as far as possible. I posted the SilentHektik links and have been using their electronic fuse box for over 10 years. My last two Skorpions had one-off harnesses I made using that fuse box. If you really need it I can mail you pdfs of the original S...

Re: Cooling Fans - Cable fuse?

Thermostat.jpg rote Verl;aengerung2.jpg Two pictures from the Yamaha but the Skorpion is basically the same. The T-junction bypasses the radiator. As long as the thermostat remains closed, the coolant does not run thru the radiator. In the top shot, you can see the hose coming from the cylinder hea...

Re: Cooling Fans - Cable fuse?

btw I ran my Skorpions with no fan at all. The fan on my SZR never once came on! my present Skorpion is air-cooled. whatever. the thermostat in the water hose is a joke both on the MZs and the SZRs. it has bypass holes which allow about 40% to flow at all times. For this reason, the motor in both ty...

Re: Cooling Fans - Cable fuse?

they should run if you bridge the connectors as you say. the switch could be defect. I should switch at 85°C, the other for the wsrning light at 105°. simple enuf to test; remove it, hook a multirester to the connectors and heat it up e. g. on the stove. Both are completely standard automotive therm...

Re: Cooling Fans - Cable fuse?

the ignition does not need to be turned on for the fans. The fans are connected thru the 15amp fuse directly to the battery and are not turned on or off by the key. The warning light is. The two thermal switches have different temperatures: the fans turn on at 85-90º C, the warning light at 105ºC s...

Re: Project Cafe Rocket 686 begins. Finally!

in making a one-off harness, there are several don't in this one for me and it is too complicated. A cardinal mistake: the battery connection: you should run both pus and minus from the rectifier directly to the battery, better yet to special posts centrally located. Connect the harness, the battery...

Re: 2 skorpions £800 local

new oem plastic is nigh nonexistent. MLB makes 2-part fiberglass farings and a sest faring for the Skorpion. engine stuff is obviously Yamaha. There is nothing really daunting; the electric things that are substandard are better replaced right off. same for the Grimeca brake parts. Unless you are de...

Re: Can you identify this Skorpion engine part?

I agree that it is a mounting collar. There are several in the engine. there are 3 sizes. Two of the larger between the two crankcase halves. another 2 for the head 2 for the cam cover 2 each for the side covers a small one for the starter gear cover. incomplete list. if I get a chance, I will drive...

Re: Fuel starvation

the fuel pump is as useful as a fifth wheel. Serious dealers in Europe removed it before selling the bike. none of mine had one, least of all the racer which never had starvation problems although it was almost never run as slow as 6000 but often over 9000. check the tank vent. this is at best margi...

Re: Project Cafe Rocket 686 begins. Finally!

from experience, I can say that you must have at least 1mm tolerance piston edge/top of cylinder, otherwise the piston will hit the head. This is due both to tipping of the piston and elongation of the conrod. OTOH i have never had problems with valve clearance. BUT never run a Megacycle without rec...

Re: 2004 Mastiff lost spark.

FWIW: I have never had. faulty DENSO coil. I HAVE had several ignition boxes, however. BTW, these are NOT CDIs = Capacitor Discharge Ignition. The bike has a very normal battery ignition with HT coil. Anyway, the blackbox does not have a particularly good reputation. Of course, the wiring harness ha...
