It's only a f---in' string of 3 sounds....get over it ;-)

Linguistically, this is called a taboo word. When they become so mainstream, they lose their power. Then I guess we make up new ones.

Now I even hear it on the f---in' TV. I would prefer to constrict its use so it would feel stronger. It's almost meaningless now.

At one time, "pregnant" was even taboo. My Grandma had two kids before she knew what it meant. There were taboos attached to anything to do with the female gender and reproduction. It was indelicate to say, "that woman is pregnant". "That lady is in a family way" was more accepted.

Don't forget that it's the Brits who gave the world "Victorianism" ... named after Queen Victoria, an allegedly puritanical figure with upright morals and a stern countenance - but who bonked like an alleycat (according to eminent historians)

Only the British could make little frocks for their furniture's 'limbs' (they wouldn't call them 'legs' - horrors!! Far too direct  ), go to church on Sundays ...... and then make whoopie with the maidservant(s). :-D :-D :-D

Probably why they hate the 'f'-word so much........

Reminds me of the last sketch in Jasper Carrott's "A Little Zit On The Side", where an American woman ponders the meaning of a car registration reading 'BOLLOX' until Jasper kindly informs her that it is an English slang word for Zits.

Of course said woman later visits the UK, gets a couple of unsightly zits while here, goes into the chemist for a remedy...... All together now..... (points to face)

"You got anything for these Bollocks?"

Dont know why SportRiderrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr has decided to revive so many long dead threads, maybe he was very bored

However this does bring to mind me of working in a warehouse in Peterhead over 30 years ago. We had a little electric fork lift truck for shifting stuff to the door of the shed, where the big trucks would take over. So one morning I'm having a tea before starting work and in storms Jock who shouts "Ah to fuck, the fuckin' fucker's fuckin' fucked" . Which ended up appearing in a PhD thesis on the use of swear words in the English language
