Good garages list...

As promised in the vintage forum, here's the garage recommendation thread. As per what I said before, if this breaks any rules etc then David please, feel free to delete the thing & let me know the problem.

Basically what the idea is, is to recommend any really good "old-school" (or even new) independent/back-street bike garages which you have used and been impressed by, giving location & contact details to hopefully assist anyone riding outside their usual area and having trouble in finding a trustworthy garage to fix their bike. Also I hope this will help bring a bit more trade to those garages listed as generally I think the better small places tend to get overlooked a bit in today's neon sign, town centre location, look-at-my-big-franchised-shop, kinda world.

Anyways, here's my tuppence worth-:

Earl Street Motorcycles,
Mirion Street,
Crewe. (England)
Phone-: 01270 250 274
Mob-:
Errr, lost that - will get it tomorrow when I.......EDIT-:oops, forgot again! will get it ASAP

Can't say enough about these guys, they're bloody brilliant & ever helpful. You can get virtually anything done there from a tyre pump-up to a full rebuild & usually much sooner than expected, and you'd be surprised at what obscure spares they can obtain too. I'm going to stop typing now or it'll look like I flippin' work there... (Which I don't, by the way!)

Come on people, someone else must know a decent garage somewhere, surely??? :?

Well, I'm going to add Fred Rogers (01606 593 638) for all MZ 2 stroke parts. I met him today & he's a great bloke with seemingly endless knowledge of IFA Motorrad products, not to mention the fact that he's got virtually every part you could ever want/need for your stinkwheel project (and special tools too).

So let's have some other people's recommendations in here too, I know there are at least some garages out there who deserve a mention...

Well if no-one else is gonna recommend anywhere they think good, I'm going to put another recent find up here.

Found this place yesterday while I was searching for somewhere to hone the barrel of the DR400 motor, Turns out the barrel's near dead but the guy has glaze-busted it for me anyway to hopefully get a bit of running out of the thing while I source a replacement.

E.M.S. (Engine Machining Services)
25 Kents Hall Farm
Coppenhall
Crewe
CW1 4PX
Tel-: 07983 976 020 (Dave Peever)

They deal with all sorts of general machine work, cranks, heads, rebores etc & also general bike repairs & servicing. Dave's a biker himself & again just the sort of enthusiast that we should exclusively put our work towards if we want to be confident in a decent job being done. Ten out of ten I'd say, & I've only just found the place - it's the sort of shop that you just know when you walk in that it's the right place to be.

Sooooo, anyone else have any favourites they'd like to add yet? :smt006

Heres one:

Mayhem Moto X
Mr. Andrian May
Unit 11 Glenmore Business Park
Vincent Road
Bumpers Farm Ind Est
Chippenham
Wiltshire
SN14 6BB.

Tel: 01249 461010 Fax: 01249 461010

They are mainly an offroader garage/shop, but will do anything from scooters to busa's. Very knowledgeable, and are familiar with MZ - have helped me out with alternative parts off the shelf too. Will go the extra mile to help out when needed. A small family business with good old fashioned values.

I bought my 1000 S from Gardner & White of Stoke Goldington, and I still service it there, although they have given back the MZ franchise now. I have always been impressed by their manners, and Paul, the guy who runs the workshop, is ever so helpful. On top of this, they also garage my bike in the winter for a very reasonable fee.
I am very happy with their service.

Here are the details:

Dunfermline Motorcycles, Bridge Street Dunfermline (Scotland!)

Can't remember th contact details, but if you're reading this then you have google, so don't be lazy!!

It's a family run business which exists, indeed hrives on word of mouth. I'd trust these guys enough to buy a bike from them unseen, but their workshop standards are what set them apart, the sort of 'shop where they'll knock up a bit on the lathe because it's "not worth sending off to Kawasaki for", then charge you the bare minimum for their time. They're not an MZ/MuZ specialist, but they have great technical knowledge and no probs working on them.

I've pointed many riders their way and no-one I know has had a bad job from them.

If you're in the area, use them. You will not regret it :D
