Thanks Breakwellmz for the Freecycle web site info. I never knew about this. The mower was a very good find. If it's an ATCO, that's the better quality version of the Qualcast Mower, Puffs for your info. Forgot to mention that I like stationary engines too but don't have many....yes I know :smt015

It`s an Atco Ensign, not sure what the engine is but it may well be a B and S sidevalve.

For anyone interested in mowers this club has massive amounts of info: https://www.oldlawnmowerclub.co.uk/ :)
I have a feeling it is a TECUMSEH 35S engine. Unfortunately this company went bust several years ago The Qualcast company used lots of their engines as they were supposed to be better the B&S?

Yes, that Lawnmowerclub site has been a wealth of information for me. There I also learned that Qualcast bought Suffolk Punch a while back. The engine & design of the mower seems similar to my old one, it reminded me of it.
Of course I can read the Atco on it, but I don't know if there's a link with Qualcast = Suffolk Lawn mower.
For comparison, here's Suffolk's A98 engine:
