Second Capacitor

Postby Blurredman » Fri Mar 10, 2017 5:14 am

Hi Guys,

I thought I would bring up this interesting question. A few years ago when my brother bought his MZ ETZ ('85) we found that there was a second capacitor on the main earth point above the airbox. I thought this was odd, because my '87 ETZ didn't have one there. We continued along with the idea that the bike works, so don't touch it.

It wasn't until a few days ago when closely scrutinising the well known and distributed MZ 12v ETZ wiring diagramme, that I realised that there was indeed a capacitor supposed to be there, but every copy of the diagramme has the image very faded so it's easy to overlook that there is a picture of a capacitor in that region. :?

The capacitor ultimately is in the middle between a positive 12v terminal and attached to an earth point. What is the purpose of this second capacitor? And why if negated nothing bad seemingly occurs. My '90 ETZ 251 doesn't have it either, but then.... it isn't on the 251 specific diagramme............And my 251 is an early one which originally came with points..!

This intruiges me. 8) 8)

may be a TV radio interference filter some older bikes make a lot of noise

as the wiring is not inside the body but hanging all over it ... the car body covers it

so its not as bad

fellow near me runs a T500 titan Suzuki in mint shape i can hear it on 50.2 mhz almost a mile away

Hello

The 2nd capacitor was on the first MZ ETZs.
The first rectifiers needed this capacitor.

After a short time, the recitifers were modified from the supplier and thus no further capacitor was needed.
So in later models they were not necessary anymore...
As far as I know only the first 1 or 2 years this capacitor was used.
