First MZ and Im lost but looking, Yank in Germany

Postby Vecchio lupo » Sat Jun 22, 2019 11:12 am

Hello everyone,

Im an American (insert joke here) and I've been a biker for over 50 years, all kinds shapes and sizes. Never had an MZ though. My German neighbor just almost gave me a 1968 MZ ES175 /2. I have managed to bring it back from a 10 year sleep and she seems pretty damn good. I am so happy to have found you boys, because information on the bikes are hard to come by. I'll post specific questions in tech or vintage section with WTF am I doing, but let me say I really like this little bike.

My round town put is a 1967 Honda CT90 K0 but its only good for 35-40mph, Im hoping this bad boy will cart me along closer to 55mph. she runs but idle is too high and years of oil means she is smoking real thick (I'm running 33-1 ratio) but i have not even got her up to temp.

enough of that, Ill troll the tech section.

thanks and feel free to reach out.

Welcome & enjoy your ES175!

Don't know the specific bike, but it should be good fun to play with. Use good two stroke oil, and then maybe a bit leaner for it to smoke less.

No my Triumph is strong, Im enjoying it more than I thought I would. My neighbor just saw me tinkering with the Honda 90 and a Hercules Ultra 50cc I rescued nd he asked me if I liked 2 strokes and did I want to fool around with his old MZ. He got it from his Father in law years ago and he doesn't ride or like it (He is a dedicated Harley Man). I stated that I love 2 strokes and Id love to fiddle around with it, then he said I could have it if I get it going and to pay him 500 whenever I want, after Im sure its a good bike.

So steep learning curve. Looking for a manual in english. Love my Honda, never letting her go, but the speed of the MZ is a nice change.
