Relays

Postby Mach IV » Wed Nov 23, 2022 4:15 pm

I'm assuming each headlight has its own relay, the low beam and high beams
have individual color codes.
I have the low beam out on the right(throttle side) and it's not the bulb,I swapped the plugs
and left went out.
The fuses are marked but the relays are not.
I did a search on relays and nothing relevant came up.
Anyone know which relays go to what?

I pulled all the relays and tested them, all good but
something still amiss.
Could be handlebar switches.

If it is a switch and you cant fix it , Look for switch from Aprilia Futura . Same thing , left and right side of clipons .

Thanks for the info.
I'm going to resolder joints and check it w/a meter and see.
Flying blind without a wiring diagram,it'll just take more time.

Cleaned up the switch after disassembly, hit the solder joints again and problem remains.
Only high beam to work is the right one, flash to pass or high beams on and the low beam on the right still doesn't work.
There has to be a module or relay for the headlights somewhere besides the fuse panel.

I doubt there is anything else in that electrical system than those that you point out . Grab the tester and find out what are you missing at the socket is it + or _ , than chasse the wire , nothing to it lol.

Did you measure the incoming and outgoing voltage at the switch ? Is it coming to the switch at all ? Do you have continuity tester or you just guessing ? Same for every componnent in that circut .

It's not just a wire,it's got to be a relay or module.
The plugs are fine, sprayed with contact cleaner and lubed w/die electric grease.
I'm still not sure which relays are for the headlights.
If I knew I could swap them and see if the problem changes lights.

One more time , do you have continuity tester with low voltage scale ? If you dont know how to use the tester , i doubt the electrical diagram will help you much , yes one of those relays must be for lights , and there is only 4 or 5 of them in the fusebox , so idk how hard is it to chceck what is for by pulling the relas one by one while bike is working . Come on ! Its just a running light . I think you going to neeed a mechanic lol .

I know WTF I'm doing.
If I don't know what the readings should be how the fuck can I diagnose it?
Mechanics are horrible with wiring.

I'm not pulling relays w/the key on without know what they are for, you sound like a mechanic.

An electrician and 12v are worse than a mechanic & 12v.
4 colors of wire vs. hundreds of solid, striped, dashed and combinations.

I'm not familiar w/ the bike or the system, not interested in toasting the ECM on
a bike I can hardly get stick coils for.

I don't remember if both the lows should be on and only one high comes on.
Some Japanese imports are set up like that so maybe this is also.
I think it looks bad and if that's the case, maybe I'll convert it.

I do lots of custom jobs/builds and make my own harnesses.

Do me a favor , find the problem and report back of your faindings . Instead of looking up all of those fancy drawings get the tester and do the job . Will be waiting .

I dont remember if MZ does shut of the lights during the start but that may have something to do with your problem , also ignition switch . Look there .
