1000 SF Fuel filler water drain ???

My Bike was running terrible and I noticed that every time I filled up with fuel, water collecting in the annular space beneath the filler cap ran into the tank. Some Dry Fuel additive sorted it and it now runs like a sewing machine.

During a recent service I went to unblock what I thought was the drain only to find it is a blind hole and not a drain pipe to be found. Surely this is a design fault or have I got a rogue fuel tank with the feature left off.

there are some things in the mz bikes that are the resualt of the design team
farming out a part several models of mz bikes are bad about things wrong with the filler cap dumping water into the tank if the bike sets out in the
rain... both my saxon tour and my rt125 suffer from this as do some of the yamaha powered models thank the guys that made the tank

I have not found where it leaks in but it does if left out

in the 50's they built bikes as basic transport now there toys so do not let the toys set out on a rain day :smt040

Fuel tank

Well it appears provision is made to drain this area of water to prevent water ingress to the fuel tank. I had a very nice reply from Mandy advising me to open up the bore of the drains.

I am not sure whether this means a hole has not been made in my tank or whether they feel it has simply blocked. I will report further after I have investigated

I have a major problem!
everytime it rains the part directly under the petrol cap fillls with water?

I also snapped my key in my cap the other day so had to pop it open with a chisel! any ideas where i can get my hands on a replacement petrol cap system and all the bits that go with it?

Well you have the same issue that I had! if you undo the bracket at the front of the tank and tilt it back you will see two rubber pipes connecting to the underside and 2 fittings screwed into the tank, pull off the clips and hoses and push some wire into the holes to unblock. However MZ acknowledge this is too small a bore and recommend opening the hole out from 2,5 mm to 3,5 mm.

As far as the fuel tank cap is concerned it is common to snap keys the other guy with the 1000S from Powys also did that, luckily I have lubed my locks with vasleine and WD40.

Busters and M andP accessories do replacement filler caps but not sure what will fit ask the parts lot down in Southampton
