Not at all mon ami. The only thing I would say is to check all the rubber components as they are of the rapid perish variety (european rubber seems to have this problem) if you look at one of my posts it mentions a vacuum hose x2 from the air filter box to the induction stub. This one will give you a real pain in the ass so check it before you do any real miles.

OK thanks. I noticed that the rubber boot on the rear brake slight swich had perished which I repaired with self amalgamating tape. Changed the oil tonight and and found lots of particles stuck to the magnetic plug. Is the oil filter common to any cars? (Thinks, they might be cheaper....)

If you look back through previous threads you will find a listing for all consumables except air filters and even a how to do it /make your own washable air filter thread. I know that one of the BM models use the same oil filter and K & N make one but neither of them are cheaper. I have a feeling that whatever filter you use it must incorporate an anti-drain back system due to its operating angle. This is standard fitting on a number of filters.

yes grahams will get the part from the factory if hes not got it in stock,bits ive ordered so far ,plugs,coils,filters,sprocket,all arrived next day ,infact ive found it easier and quicker to get parts for the mz than my yamaha yzf750

Hi Chaps,
Trend continues? Tuxracers old bike (SF same colour as Geds) was sold by the dealer in Inverness and has gone back to Germany.

@slipperysam Please check the camshaftchainscrew hope that is the right translation a lot of owners had problems with it, it could destroy the motor !

That's only the second one I've read about on the German site and they made lots of noise before they had problems.

Personally I wouldn't go taking off the side cover to look at a screw unless I heard noises. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3786

It would take more than that little screw to destroy one of these motors. :-D

As far as I can tell this is very isolated...

Hi Iceman,
in the meantime we discussing that "Screwproblem" on page 19 !!! We have had 2 destroyed motors and a lot of loose screws
It doesn´t matter which year of production or how many miles but it´s up to everybody themselves to check it or not.

CharlyB, Just don't over do it on that little screw or you could be creating a trouble that didn't exist...too tight=snap :shock:

I think your point re over-tightening should be well taken by all, especially when dealing with a steel screw threaded in to an Aluminium/Aluminum casting. One of the threads on the German website seems to advise the use of a thread locking compound rather than an increase in tightness or thread loading. I can see this as a viable alternative provided both the screw and casting threads are THOUROUGHLY cleaned prior to application of the compound and the screw tightened to the correct torque figure (allowing for the lubricating action of the wet compound) when re- fitting. Cam chain tensioner problems seem to have been a recurring theme over the last 40 years or so, most manufacturers seem to have had a problem at some time or other, Makes you wish for an old bevel drive Duke!
