Last time I looked the clutch was on the left hand side of my motor (looking foreward) so who told you that the clutch was on the right side? And as others have said this is an MZ motor with an MZ (invented) casette type gearbox. As I have said its a simple job and the procedure has been adequately described elswhere on this website.

Cool,I just assumed it was on the right.
Now to get those springs,I may as well order all three.
Maybe two of each just in case.

A good idea to get extra springs. You may notice that the main drive chain is on the "wrong side" of the machine as compared to the norm. This is one of the consequences of having a cassete type simply removable gear cluster. This was an MZ (Walter Kaden) invention back in the 50's to facilitate fast ratio and bearing changes in their racing gearboxes. The real value of this design aspect comes when a gearbox repair is required. My wife's Ducati ran a mainshaft bearing a few years back and the repair bill ran to over £800 (and the job was carried out by a friend in his racing workshop!) as as the whole engine required stripping to acess a £30 bearing.

I bought this bike last April and have yet to ride it.
If it's not my "cup of tea" it will go up for sale.

Well,I finally got around to ordering the parts.
They arrived yesterday and I pulled the clutch cover and clutch, the springs are intact, however that tab
that a few of you have found in your oil pans was bent and cracked.
Should I have it welded and put it back in?
If it would shift without it then it wouldn't have gotten stuck in N to begin with.
When reassembling does it matter what gear it is in?
I know certain bikes need to be in a specific gear when put back together.
Hoping to have it up and running tomorrow, there is a machine shop right next door that will weld the tab for me.

Been riding it a few months now,I had the tab welded as the springs were all fine.
Now I just need some trashed muffs so I can cut the mid pipes off for the Leo Vince
cans I have for it.
