Postby MZErnie » Sun Apr 27, 2014 7:56 pm

Guys,Any word on how Grahams in the UK is progressing with the new parts situation?I have emailed Ian,but he is vague as far as if the situation is improving.Wondering,as I am about to purchase a 2005 MZ 1000S,and want to know how the parts situation is,before I commit. Thanks!

A friend has been looking for a starter for about eight months for a 2005 1000S and Grahams recently got back to him after three months and has a new one for about $700 US dollars.
Needless to say he's not paying $700 for a starter...

Unfortunately that's what muz.de are charging for them! Just looked and they are €506 which is around $700. Just looked up the new price for my 2000 Triumph Tiger 855i and that is £460... which is $770! And a quick look at Honda part prices... Starter motor for 2000 CBR100 Super Blackbird ... are you sitting down? $1,278.53!!!
Unfortunately because of the relative rarity of the MZ1000 second hand parts are few and far between.
ES250 Doppelport, ES250, ES250/1, ES250/2,ETS 250, ES150, ETS150, BK350, IWL Pitty, SR56 Wiesel, SR59 Berlin, Troll............ and thats just the German two strokes!

I hear you about prices but on more common bikes 1000cc you can get starters on Ebay for $100 because they're common.

I have a 1999 Blackbird so I went to the site I order Honda OEM parts to see what a starter cost and it's a fraction of what you posted..check it out.

I guess what I was trying to find out was not so much the cost, but rather if you can actually get the parts in a reasonable amount of time?I contacted Ian,and it seemed he would not know until an order was placed.Have you guys had reasonable success obtaining parts from Grahams, and can you order direct from the MZ parts source in Germany? Thanks again,Ernie.

For five months Grahams couldn't get an MZ 1000 starter...now he can.

I have several 1000 MZ parts in stock,I bought them from France a year ago.
THey are on my interent shop.

The problem with the parts is, that MuZ went bankrupt.
There is a company that took over the spare part business.
But the things that are not in stock will only reproduced when it pays. So some parts will not be available when they are out of stock, because it would not pay to produce them .
That is the problem with all MZ bikes.
I produce some parts for the 2 stroke bikes.
But there is a minimum of 400- 500 pcs to produce to keep the costs in reasonable hights.
And if there is no demand for 400-500 pcs I will not produce it.
Just that simple....

That's not the only problem though. I recently ordered some parts from Grahams. They are Yamaha parts but they were quoted cheaper than I could get from a Yamaha dealer. I just assumed Grahams were ordering them from a Yamaha parts distributor probably somewhere in the UK but it turns out they order them from MZ, who get them from Yamaha presumably.

They have now ordered my parts from Yamaha and are charging as per the initial quote so I'm happy with the price. Grahams seem OK to deal with but their MZ contact seems pretty unorganised.
His - 1995 Yamaha XV750, 21 000 miles.
Hers - 1994 MZ Scorpion Sport - 40 000 miles.

I could be wrong but aren't you located in Latrobe Pennsylvania and go by Alfaguy and you've flipped about four of these 1ooo's...I'm pretty sure your one in the same I was just wondering as you're already registered on this forum as Alfaguy.
