Brake light issues found. Now need parts.... Help?

Postby Eomund » Sat Apr 04, 2020 4:48 pm

Hey all. So after an exorbitant amount of reading, studying, tracing wires and testing stuff I have since found my issue I think. And it's all due to 1 missing wire and an incorrect light housing.

After a deep deep study of the schematic, I found out I was majorly over complicating everything. The brake wire literally comes directly off the coil with no inbetween. And the brake switches are actually ground interrupts. From what I could find, the light housing seems to be from an old suzuki, and a newer one at that. The light and brake in that light share a ground. Where the brakes need their own ground from how the switches seem to work. So I just need to run a wire from the coil, and get a housing that allows for 2 separate lights. So the brakes can be grounded separately.

I have tested this on my multimeter so I'm near certain it's correct. But if I do have something wrong. Please please let me know.

And if I am correct, where the hell can I get the right kinda light housing. I'm not sure what to search for and so far coming up goose egg.

Thanks!

Holy shit I love you. I don't speak a lick of German. But I'll see what the total cost will be tomorrow

But Unless I'm mistaken.. you have the US import version of the lamp that ALL USA Mz's seem to have.. the round type is what europeans have..

It does look suzuki ish however. What are the markings on the lens? Presumably it was changed to be 'DOT approved'...
You can tell the USA imported ones in the below link. They have the same lamps as you!

Question...
Are they single or bilux bulb capable ??
1973 MZ ES250/2 - 17,000 miles - The project! :)
1979 Suzuki TS185ER - 9,000 miles - Mud :)

Well, the housing is bilux capable. But the switches literally aren't. Because they work off of a ground switch. So unless something was swapped back to european spec in the bikes life, the original lights had to have had 2 bulbs. Not duplex (The US name for it).
So for now I need a 2 light setup. I've made one that will work. And I will order one of the german ones when I can afford it. So I have something that works.

I saw your thread. They look like typical trailer tail lamps. I'd say it's handy you can have indicators in red too!
