Happiness turned to horror

Postby JawasandMZs » Sun Jan 16, 2022 7:14 pm

The dream of my ETZ has come crashing down. Tonight, Sunday 16th Jan 2022, I was riding home from work when the tortured scraping noise of metal on metal came from the gearbox of my etz 250. Within a mile the gearbox seized solid and the rear wheel locked up. Even pushing the bike 5 yards was agony. Tomorrow I shall have to return to the bike and break the chain in order to push the bike home.

All that work and all that money ... gone.

The bike will now be broken up and the good bits sold on ebay. Never, ever again will I ever buy or ride and hopefully not even SEE another MZ. And in these sad circumstances I announce that this will also be my last ever contribution to this forum.

Following a biased and flawed moderator choice (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed - behind my back & without any justification!), I have withdrawn from this forum.

If it's "only" the gearbox, it may well be worth salvaging the bike. You have put a great deal of time and effort into it, and you will know that what you have done so far forms a good basis. Maybe just put it away in the garage for a couple of weeks and then see how you feel. I do feel for you though, it's a real "PITA"!

I overtightened the chain. Two grand gone in 10 minutes.

Thanks Puffs. Sad thing is I already know all this stuff. Ive already changed my Jawa chain after just 12k with tons of adjustment left and no tight spots. Just to express what a pleb I am with mechanics, changing the kick-start return spring on its own was an ordeal. It can't be overstated what a must it is to be able to raise a bike to waist height to work. i just hate lying down to work on bikes. On an encouraging note, wrecked MZs often fetch better a price on ebay than 600 Divvies in vgc. And Divvies are very competent bikes. Funny ole world innit?
