Too long speedometer cable causing bouncing needle?

Postby klemmy » Thu Jun 22, 2023 1:42 pm

Anyone had simmilar issues?

I'm having bouncing needle in the speedometer since i own my ETZ 250. I had tried many things, lubed the wire, lubed driving mechanism in the rear wheel, adjusting cable to have the "smoothest" position to run...I put a new (used) speedometer, it is the same situation, the needle is bouncing up to 70-90km/H beyond that is ok. I tested speedometer with cordless drill and it picked up speed very smoothly and without any bouncing. But when I disconected cable from driving mechanism and drive it with cordless drill ,it is bouncing again. So I think there is a problem in the cable.

The cable itself is looking pretty new...

Any suggestions? Shound I trimmed the end of the cable, the square one?

Thank you very much for your answers

MZs speedos at best aren't super accurate. I use a magnetic bike speedo alongside the normal speedo (called cateye quick) for a spot-on reading hence reassurance in these days of 20 limits.
It's small discreet and easy fit. They cost £30. Downside: goes haywire above 53mph and not back-lit.

they make GPS units for boats but most only show to 60 mph and do not display miles traveled

but looks like amazon has a bunch of listings
