baghira overheating problem !!!! help !

Postby therotter » Mon Apr 14, 2008 1:04 pm

My 05 Baghira Black Panther SM has started running viciously hot. Pipe glows cherry red at night and the bike smells like a BBQ. I have removed and tested the thermostat and it seems to be working ok , Coolant flow seems good. As an extra test i bypassed the thermostat, however the bike still overheats. The bike has an aftermarket pipe and has been rejetted to suit (supposedly). It ran with this pipe and jet combo fine though previously. Help ! does anyone have any ideas ??? any input would be very much appreciated.......Thanks

 :( Andy.

One of the experts will chime in soon, but if your header pipe is that hot, it sounds like you're running ultra-lean. How is idle/acceleration?

air leak in intake between carb and engine is first thing to check
and also the exhaust piping
also timing light on it and make sure it is in time

idle is good , bike is easy to start, the bike seems a little flat at the lower end, it also consumes fuel extremely heavily, strange as the bike exhibits symptoms of being excessively lean. Is the timing fixed ????? can a bad cdi box cause over advanced ignition??? I did a cursory check for air leaks already but i will investigate further tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions.....

Hi, not sure about bad CDi but low battery power/bad feed/earth has done this to a few of the "electronic" bikes I've seen in the past.

also, how is the oil level & supply? if the engine isn't getting enough lubrication it would run hot too, however it does sound like a lean mixture from the glowing exhaust symptom. What does the plug look like?

if its a model with 2 carbs that are cv make sure both carb slides are working properly
some one had a problem a bit back with one of the carbs not working causing a problem that was had to sort out

yes, make sure there is not a hole in the diaphram for the secondary carb.
