sm125 clutch cable

Postby rodge70 » Wed Apr 23, 2008 3:48 pm

hi,just finishing the last bits on the bike and the clutch cable seems excessively stretched, the handle bar adjuster is practicaly wound out to the max and still a lot of free play in the lever.was wondering if there is anything on the actuator that may need adjusting, plonk it in gear and the clutch drags.have just serviced the bike, new oil and filter, but have not started it up yet, coolant to be added, if that has any bearing on this problem.thanks.

there is an adjustment nut on the front of the clutch basket behind the right side engine cover
it may take up the slack if it does not then you may need a new cable

lay bike on side and remove oil filter and then the cover this way you do not need to dump the oil from engine
be careful there is a spring and ball bearing that is part of the oil pressure circuit
that can fall out located near the oil filter it is held in place by the right side cover
this is the reason i say lay bike on side so you know where it goes
as it falls out with bike standing up
i can send photo and more detail if needed

thanks for advice dave, took casing off and had to lean bike over to remove inner pushrod and hopefully middle ball bearing, found the bearing for pressure relief valve,7mm, but no sign of clutch bearing yet,4mm,will scour the garage floor but quite confident if it was left out by somebody  ,think that may explain excessive clutch cable free play, thanks
