Blow out on inner tube - Silver Star

Postby Nozz » Tue Aug 26, 2008 10:55 pm

I had an unsettling few moments last week when the tube inside my back tire blew out. There was no tire puncture, just the tube blew and in fact split completely across and around. It was just less than a foot around from the valve stem. I managed to keep control of the bike, and all is back to normal now, but I wonder what could have led to this happening. If it is related to tire pressure, or something I can control, that is one thing, but if it could have been caused by a defective tube, I guess I want to steer towards a heavier duty brand! I may be guilty of riding around with an underinflated tire, but I would never suspect that would cause a blowout.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone with insight into this type of thing. Thanks in advance!

If you just once have this sudden loss of air while on a crowded freeway, you may well elect to find and pay for natural rubber tubes. Both Metzler and Continental are natural rubber.

always use one or the other no matter what band tire and always use correct tube for tire size

the man made rubber will some times split
the natural rubber tube require regular checks of pressure

Hello!

Every time I change a tyre, change inner tube, inner tubes are not for ever!

I change always inner tube, do no repair puctures. I use a precision pocket pressure indicator "pencil model".

Michelin are my preffer inner tubes, more expensive but good quality control, the valve are "vulcanized" in the tube.
Bikers tell me explosions with tube and no-tube wheels; I pay more money for my life insurance :( because I work in a motorcycle :)

Best regards, Manuel.
The answer is blowin' in the wind...no wind no answer :(

Thanks for the responses. I think I will make sure to use a good brand-name tube along with my next Cheng Shin tire!
