HELP ETZ 301 engine transplant, Electrical probs

hi, just got hold of a half finished project. etz 301 engine transplanted into cr250.
all the relevent electrics have been transplanted minus all lighting wiring and clocks.
getting voltage to coil but it only sparks when i disconnect the battery, not when its kicked.
does this sound like something obvious?

also ive been told that this engine will run with a direct fuel/oil mix, is this true? if so what happens to the oil pump?

does anyone know if its possible to get a 520 front sprocket

any help would be appreciated
