Ts150 carb

Postby Malj » Fri Sep 30, 2016 10:32 am

Hi, looking for a replacement carb for my ts150, the carb fitted is a 24n1 but can't find a replacement, however I can find 24n2 carbs. Can I fit and will the bike run with the 24n2 ?, or is there a better alternative ?

Cheers

I believe that the n1, n2, n3 etc are jsut model revisions of the same carburettor. On some I cannot see much if any difference, but as far as I'm aware the biggest leap in carburettor design was the 30n2.5 to the 30n3 which are for the 250cc/300cc bikes. I don't think you'd go too wrong with an n2 instead of an n1.. But that is just a 'think' :P

You can change the carbs, but have an eye on the jets. Check if they are the same on both carbs.

I just fitted a replacement carb on my 150, it is a vergasser brand, but it came fitted with a 175 main jet, which I am finding to be WAY too rich. The floats in my original BVF had deteriorated and were soaking up fuel. Perhaps someone can correct me, but I think the main jet is supposed to be a 90? There is no number on the original jet, at least not that I can see. When I fitted a Mikuni to my ts250, I had to jet all the way up from 140 to 172.5!

The 22N carb. has 90 main jet, the 24 cab. has 95 main jet.
And Vergaser is not a brand,it is the german word for caburetor.....

Ah. learn something new every day! I guess it's an IFA? That's the only other marking on it, I know it came from Germany. Anyway, the old jets from my BVF fit right in and solved all the problems.

It is a chinese reproduction.
IFA was the name of the merger of all the GDR car and motorcycle producing companies.

Now a spare part selling company owns this name.
So it has nothing to do with a carb. brand name.
This IFA can be put on any spare part that this company sells.

The same is with BVF, this name is owned by another spare part seller....

Hmm, very sneaky: It came from a German company, in a box covered in German words, but is made in China. I should have known, the metallurgy seems a bit under par, surface imperfections, seems cast from pot metal, etc. It was a good fit, and works fine (for now). Perhaps I can take the floats, valve and such from the IFA and put them in the old BVF, and have an all-German (mostly) bike again. I wish there was a better way to be sure of getting genuine German parts.

The best way is to ask the supplier if the part is original german or a reproduction.
Some shops show on their sites if the part is original or reproduction, for example me :-)
