Recommended front disc 17" - Baghira

Postby Baggy_Mike » Mon Mar 27, 2017 7:29 am

Hi guys,
I would like to order a disc today but would like to go on a recommend.
I called Grahams motorcycles and the front alone is £168. Is there a disc that is going to do the job but cheaper?

Thanks

about 100 usd

good ducuti dealer should have or able to get one

drag the old disk in to a ducatai dealer

the last good ebc cross reference book was 2006

I have no idea why this is such a ball ache. I called EBC who have no match for the bike on the system.
I found that a company calling themselves Brooks Barn have a disc listed, an EBC one, for £44.
It clearly states that it fits all the Baghira’s but I called just to confirm. The woman on the other end sadly wasn’t a bike person, so my query was met with confusion. It’s going to take an hour now to confirm if this is right or not. Why would this require this kind of research when it states on the site that it fits??

I'm not sure what to say to that Dave, i'm dealing with people who are listing MZ parts...so far the only person who knows what they're talking about when it comes to the Baghira front disc is the guy quoting me £168. The garage are telling me to buy that one but with the bill already at a point i'm not happy with, I was looking for a cheaper alternative. The guy on the desk said it's likely this EBC one is not correct as the price is so low, he can't believe it could be less than £100 and assumes it's wrong.
I need a good brand of disc pretty quick and not many people i can ask at this point.

the ebc parts lookup book turned in to trash about 5 years ago and its impossible to use it as a cross reference any more

If i wanted one and saw that add i would just buy it!
If it don`t fit they are obliged to take it back and pay for return postage. It will take you no time to visually assess whether it will fit or not surely?

Whilst I agree it’s not difficult to match a disc to a wheel, the bike has been in the local dealer garage for a week now and they asked me to get a couple of bits myself, as I’d be paying them more if they ordered it. I originally took it in for service and they have found a number of things wrong. When I called Grahams motorcycles, they only had three of the five bits I needed, so two parts were purchased online with guidance from them.
The last part is the disc, at £168 I know this to be overpriced, so I looked elsewhere for a decent brand and cost. So far I haven’t found something I can be confident in buying. I went to EBC to solve this, I come away more confused than I was before. I’d love to keep buying parts I potentially have to return but I’m not fitting the part and the garage won’t want to be storing my bike.

It appears this disc will fit;

https://www.intobikes.co.uk/products/000079/003124/EBC-Pro-Lite-X-Series-Front-Brake-Disc-suitable-for-Yamaha-YZF-R1-1999

From the digging I have done, this has the same dimensions. I'd really need someone who has tried it to confirm but I'm 90% confident.

The clues in the title Den, that's a rear. :smt005
I spoke to the guy who has produced the catalogue and he's been there for near 30 years. For whatever reason and I’m still not sure why, he no longer matches an EBC with the Baghira. Thankfully though I’ve done so much research into this, I’ve bought something that will fit.

All avenues taken David and see above for more info. I'm sorted now though, so hopefully when the disc comes through it’ll be worth the effort.

On a side note and for anyone who stumbles on this in the future, the following information should help.

MZ Baghira 17” front rotor dimensions

6 bolts – 8.4mm (Plain holes)
Thickness: 5mm
Outer diameter: 298mm
Internal diameter: 132mm
PCD: 150mm
Offset: 0

This is effectively the same disc as the Yamaha R1 (98-01). This fits a wide range of Yam’s.

The only difference with the 21” wheel is that the outer diameter is 282mm.
