Got a rusting hulk of an MZ but surprising what can be achieved with a bit of elbow grease!

What make of elbow grease did you use? I am restoring a BMW airhead and along with my son's newly bought TS125 I have a rather lot of oxidised alloy to clean. :-D

Started with coarse steel wool, then onto fine emery cloth and lastly 600 grit wet/dry. Finally I went round and round the rim with Solvol Autosol metal polish. I can't say it was an easy job as it was long and quite boring to be brutally honest but I feel happy with the results. The rims do look better in the pictures than they are in reality as the corrosion had eaten into the surface of the metal! The hubs are cast aluminium so are perhaps harder than the rims so simply cleaned them with a bench grinder mounted wire wheel.
