Does not charge when lights are turn on!

Postby Blurredman » Tue Nov 28, 2017 3:41 am

Hi guys,

So my engine has been rebuilt and it all went rather smoothly.

I have an MOT thursday, however there is one little issue.. The charge light remains on whilst the bike is running.

I have noticed that the bike DOES charge even when the light is on, but only with the lights off. When the lights are turned on the charging stops, the charge light remains on but dimmer the higher the revs go.

I have done the following to try and rectify this:

Changed ignition coil,
Changed Mechanical regulator for an electronic one (a known working one),
Changed the brushes and brush holder,
Swapped the fuse box for another one,
Changed the rectifier,
Used a battery which I know is good.

I'm thinking stator? I just can't understand why the bike does not charge when the lights are on, and that the charge light emmits regardless.

Well.. after reading the official service manual, I think the problem was caused by my own hand when I was wiring the stator back up.

I had mixed up the wires of DF, D+ and D- which according to the manual can cause damage by the introduction of putting in a reverse polarity.. Look like I will need to buy me a new stator :x :x :x

I connected wires incorrectly after a flurry of excitement getting the engine back together..

I have a replacement one now from a barely used ETZ125 that was being broken up on e-bay....

Along with a mechanical regulator, headlamp, tail lamp, indicators and throttle tube clamp (reproduction ones are crap!)
