Difficulty finding neutral-oil?

Postby ralf » Mon Apr 19, 2021 3:25 am

I've got difficulty finding neutral when my 500R is hot. Is this common? My only thought is that I'm currently using Rock Oil Guardian 10w-40 which is a semi synthetic JASO MA2 oil specifically listed as being for motorcycles and suitable for wet clutches. I don't remember having the problem when I used a standard 15w-40 mineral engine oil. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Dave and Puffs. I've had the clutch apart over winter and put in the latest version of clutch plates supplied by Sportax in the UK as the leaf spring release spring had broken up. The basket edges were pretty smooth but I did dress the edges up as required. The cable has been lubricated but I will take it off and do it again. The trouble is that on the 500R the footrests obstruct the removal of the clutch cover and it needs the lower frame member removal and the exhausts. It's not that bigger a deal but makes it a bit more difficult that might be expected hence my question of those more experienced in the Rotax engine than I am.
The suggestion from Sportax is that it's not an oil issue.
Thanks again.

Feedback on my problem is that it seems that it's essential that there is virtually no slack in the operating mechanism either at the clutch end or the handlebar end. Having adjusted both to minimal slack things are better.
