oil leak Rotax 500

Postby JulianMZRotax » Fri Jun 08, 2007 7:41 am

Hi

The bike has started to leak oil from the clutch cable bellows cover . It only started after a fast run . 33900KM . Oil change and new filter August last year . semi synthic oil used . Have checked the enging breather pipe and this is clear .

Any ideas ?

oil

Postby DAVID THOMPSON » Fri Jun 08, 2007 12:42 pm

mine leaks from this area when ran hard ( it has 19,000km on it)
there is a rubber o-ring on some of the clutch cables where it seats in the case that may be bad or is a cable with none
and mine has a rubber boot also in this area

i am not a fan of the simi syn oils some are too slick and will ruin the clutch
fiber plates

i use shell rotella T 20w-50 oil

my dad always said "if it does not leak some where it must be out of oil "
but then i think it was a BSA he was talking about
ar dave :-D

ps there is a hose on top the motor to the frame tank this should be checked
and renewed as it is a major pain in the A to change on a trip ...on mine
the gas tank must be removed to get too it
poor design results in the fuel shut off having to be removed
to get the tank off even after draining it dry there is still a bunch of gas in the tank..the job best done outside with care

use a small zip tie around the base of the grommet. Make
sure you clean the grommet and the metal base real good.
Mine hasn't leaked since.

a lot of auto parts shops have a box of o-rings at the counter or a pack on shelves

i found one in the huge junk box at the place that works on my wife's car

mine is finally back together from the wreck i had 10 years ago
but need to sell off some of the other stuff i do not ride any longer
the HEARD is too big way too many bikes in the shed
