THIS IS A POST I MADE AT THE CHAIN GANG AFTER READING THERE F650 SPARKPLUG FAQ AND NOTES FOR 3 DAYS
ROTAX ENGINE OWNERS 504E TAKE NOTE

sparkplug comment and hello comment to all

hello

i now have a 1995 MZ Saxon Tour it has a rotax 504e 500cc motor
and it has been running bad of late...
after reading the forum faq and several post on spark plugs
i replaced the D8EA plug with a NGK DPR8EA-9
and what a difference it's like i am riding a different bike
had to reset the idle on the bing carb
and now it runs very nice
if your f 650 is running like crap this may be the answer

this rotax powered MZ has been bugging me for a year and a half
i thought it was the bing carb
:-) spark plug sparkpluga

IT IS HARD TO FIND A PLUG WRENCH THAT FITS THIS ENGINE
THE ONLY PLACE I FOUND ONE IS AT SEARS IN THE USA
THE PROBLEM IS THE OUTSIDE OF MOST 18MM SOCKETS THAT ARE CALLED THIN WALL
ARE STILL TO BIG..THIS ONE IS LABELED SPARK PLUG USE ONLY

price where i live was just a few cents over $5 usd
and i did not have to cut it down on a lathe

BUMP
READ UPDATE IN ABOVE POST
dave
and this
if you make this change
DO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PROPER
SPARK PLUG WRENCH WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES (the ori d8ea is different size)

you will not find it in very many tool boxes for the new plug

plug made my bike run good
but the wrench that fits is hard to find
you should always carry spark plug wrench
several times in my many years i have found plugs loose in the hole

Great post - thanks Dave!
I have always tried all the spark plug sockets I've got before realizing that none of them work and using the one that came with the factory toolbox so I went and got this at my local Sears and it works great for less than $5. Part number is 50728 (http://www.sears.com/craftsman-18mm-eas ... 950728000P).
I'm gonna try the NGK DPR8EA-9 next!

makes the bike run better at least mine did ...
and do look at how to slow the idle down before you start the bike

it made mine idle faster when i installed it

and do use the compression release both starting and shutting it off

i do love the electric start as my legs are getting beyond the kick start drill even on a small moped

I fitted one of the DPR8EA-9 plugs the other day.

I can't say it's transformed the bike or anything, to be fair I only rode it round the block. when I took the old one out it was black, not a healthy colour at all, quite sooty.

It's still a pig to start even with the starter, when turning over there's a fair amount of snatching and kicking back etc. I don't know if it's damaged the Sprag but it sometimes just spins the starter and doesn't turn the engine. I've tried shutting down and starting with the decompressor, starting was slightly better but it still didn't 'catch' and occasionally wellied the starter/sprag :(

Dave.

it is a very thin thin wall 18mm i think

it has been 15 years since i did this

I found the spark plug wrench from a 2014 Can Am Renegade 4 wheeler will fit perfectly.
