Hidden float filter

I got round to removing the hidden filter on the Mastiff this morning, i couldn`t believe how much rubbish was in there!

the fuel where i live is very bad when i ride a lot cleaning the extra filter
on my bike is a weekly job and on the rt125 i run the no ethanol fuel
and still get junk ...on the regular car gas it runs very poor
and is hard to start if it sets for a few days

Is this on the Skorpion carbs too?

Hi guys

I`ve had inline filters at times and actually took them off thinking they were the problem.
This is about 20,000 miles of accumulated crap in the photo, most of which appeared to be fine fibres.
I think the biggest obstacle to accessing the filter is the float pivot pin removal, which comes out in the OPPOSITE direction of the arrow on the support pillar. I applied heat with a small flame, some penetrating oil, and knocked it out with a pin and hammer.

Yes, the conclusion i came to.
Plastic tank on the Mastiff and i had taken the tap and tank filter out, stripped and cleaned to no effect.

CARE MUST BE USED THE 2 POST THAT HOLD THE FLOAT is very weak
and will break easy.. when removing the pin

To answer avrentyuk's question, yes the hidden filter is in the Skorpion carb too. Mine got blocked and resulted in the engine not running above about 2,000 rpm and it took me an age to find the problem. My advice would be to take the filter out and discard it and add an in-line filter to the fuel line. As mentioned you do have to take care removing the float pivot pin, but otherwise it's quite straight forward.

those black fibres are from the fuel tank i had them on my fuel filter in the fuel tank petcock a few years ago they were like stringy snotty fibres.. i bet my hidden filter is the same....
