17"Front Wheel mastiff

Postby gerner1964 » Tue Dec 08, 2020 4:32 am

Hello. I'm a new member and looking for advice. I'm renovating a Mastiff 660 and have a question concerning the front wheel.
When correctly mounted in the forks the rim seems to be offset towards the left (when sat on the bike) so the space between the tyre and the fork leg on the right is greater than that on the left by about 10mm.
It appears to me that the wheel has laced up incorrectly. To remove the brake caliper I had to loosen the disc to give enough clearance to get the caliper out. I cant understand why the rim isn't central between the forks.
Can someone with a mastiff check for me please and report back.
Regards Tony.

Mine is central. Post a photo.
Do the spokes on the front wheel look newer/different than/to the rear?

Thanks for replying
the spokes do look newer and a thinner gauge than the ones on the back wheel. I'll post a picture tonight when I get home.

Just back in from the garage after a spot of tinkering, the rim is definitely central in the forks as you would expect.
Personally i would have a go at it myself if it were mine, have you ever trued up a wheel or changed the offset, even a bicycle one?

Ive just had some tinkering time and the wheel is incorrectly offset by 5mm to the left. I have some unused spoke keys and if I had more patience I'd realign it but I think I'll centre it using spacers.. It needs some new bearings anyway. Thank you checking for me it is much appreciated

I don`t know if that will work, shunting the hub over by having different axle spacers will mean your disc won`t line up with the caliper.

Following a biased and flawed moderator choice (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed - behind my back & without any justification!), I have withdrawn from this forum.
