MASTIFF REAR BRAKE DISC..HELP

Postby flash4hardcore » Fri Apr 09, 2021 5:06 pm

Trying to find a replacement rear brake disc for a 1998 Mastiff. Anyone know if any other models will fit. I'm in the US and trying to find one. Thanks.

Dave, thanks I'll look into it. I did find a front disc a few years ago that was a Yamaha, But have been unsuccessful with the rear. I have bought two that didn't work. The rims on my bike are BEHR spoked if that helps. But I'll check out the MD2002 and see what I can come up with. Thanks again.

any further progress on this... i noticed my original disk has a quite a bad lip on the outside i have ground off the lip but could do with a new disk....

how did you manage to get the fzr600 disk to attach if the mounting holes are m10 instead of m6... other than drilling new hols in the hub and tapping to m10 i cnat see how else you could have done it..
are there any other alternatives i wouldnt mind a wavy type disk has anyone sourced one ?

Hi.
I`m pretty sure they won`t be tapped holes as implied by M6/M10 but clearance bolt holes, but saying that it`s very big difference in hole size in otherwise identical discs.
I`d be interested to see how that was resolved as well!
Have you had to replace a front disc Alun? Mine is getting close to its limit and will need replacing soon.
Cheers.

Yeah, front disc was replaced a long time ago a, friend had a pair of discs off an R1 they work perfectly, and are 10 and 12 bobbin discs, my old original disc was very rattly and eventually left m e stranded as it fell apart and locked front wheel up very dangerous

Thanks for that, R1 does ring a bell thinking on it. The disc failing like that must have got the old heart pumping!

After looking at the parts manual it appears that there are spacers (#3625012000 Spacer 8x6x2.5)to take up the space in the disc to make to M6 Bolts work with out any play. I was replacing an original rear disc which may have been a production run that had M6 holes drilled in it from "who knows" manufacturer. I did not drill or tap the rim. I currently have 12.9 Hardness button head M6 bolts installed and the disc hasn't shifted at all on the rim, there was enough head to secure the disc to the rim and I centered everything the best I could. I do plan on installing Flanged button heads that will help to keep everything centered a little better.

The rear disc I installed was BRAKING YA08R1 KBA61005A, I believe the front disc I installed a few years back was from a '98-'99 YZF R1/R6. Also Chain Slider UFO (#TR-117306) KA03703#001. Air Filter from Honda CRF 250R.

i found this in my computer
it was mad a while back while beating the web to death trying to help some one get back on the road

MZ Baghira 17” front rotor dimensions

6 bolts – 8.4mm (Plain holes)
Thickness: 5mm
Outer diameter: 298mm
Internal diameter: 132mm
PCD: 150mm
Offset: 0

This is effectively the same disc as the Yamaha R1 (98-01). This fits a wide range of Yam’s.

The only difference with the 21” wheel is that the outer diameter is 282mm.

Yamaha YZF ‘R1’ 98-03 298 5 0 132 8.5 150 6 MD2074LD MD2074RD

Thanks for all the replies,

When i removed my disk tbe other day, bear in mind i have had my bike 15 years, and at some point i must have removed the rear disk when i rebuilt the rear wheel. I must have sourced some stainless flanged button head bolts to replace the original steel rusty ones, anyway 4 of the 6 bolts were loose so the disk was only held on with 2 bolts!!!! I have ground the lip off the disk and it works fine, but it would be good to get a new one or get something as good as the original fitment, those spacers you quoted 8x6x 2.5 were they an mz part number?

i enlarged this text so it would stand out on the page Dave site mod
