Sport Cup - Oil Level Checking

Postby Skorpio » Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:12 am

I can't find a definitive answer anywhere so here goes:
When checking oil level on Skorpion Sport Cup do you (a) screw the cap/dipstick all the way in then unscrew or (b) just rest cap on the lip of the filler hole? I have put at least 2.7 liters of oil in and dipstick showing just on the lower mark using method (b) above. Gurus please advise which is the correct method. Thanks!

David Thompson pointed me to the Yamaha SZR660 manual which indicates the method as (b). Thanks David!

Two points to add,

1. Since its a dry sump system that oil level is not as critical as long as there is enough oil flowing through the system
2. There are a min/max mark on the top of the plastic oil tank (hard to see) that I find easier to use then the dip stick.

I have. a feeling that referring to the Yamaha manual in this case will only work if the Yamaha uses the same oil tank as the Sport Cup. I don't believe it does. This excerpt from page 29 of the Tour/Sport/Replica manual. "Screw in the oil dipstick until it stops and read the oil level after screwing the stick out again".

That would certainly correlate with the amount of oil I've put in! The Yamaha oil tank is indeed different and is mounted next to the motor. Kevin, where did you come across that manual?

The manual came with the bike, I've had it a long time!
