What tick over speed do you tend to have, that sounds slow to me.
With standard, modified standard and now single carb setups on mine 14-1500rpm idle speed still feels best all round for me. :D

i usually run tickover quite low...as low as i can get it to run smooth.... its the same squealing / whining at all engine speeds though... i probably sorn it now and put it up my garage until i decide what to do with it. i may even break it if i get enough interest.. shame, as it was such a nice bike too...

was sound there before the spring gear was changed new gear will whine against an old gear
and straight cut gears whine unless running in lots of oil

but if sound there before i am thinking air leak somewhere

running a bike at very slow rpm is hard on them

turned (flipped)around several old /2 BMW's for a profit
the guys pounded the cranks out of them by idling them too slow

in fact the word slow does not do it justice ..they were some where between stopped and very slow

i bought an r50 s crank from brown motor works in ca usa in 1975 it was $1500 usd almost enough for a new 750 Honda 4
and my dad was good at fixing old BMW cranks but i never got the hang of it

and lot of noise can be by not having a stock air box
my 660 is missing one of the plastic covers under the seat an its loud

any one with 4 and 5 as extra in the parts box i am interested .. number 2 the air filter is not found in USA
click picture to make it bigger an use arrow keys to move up and left to view it

item 4 and 5 4 = 3433007000 5 can be hand made if needed

But he has only taken a cover off, removed the gear, re-fitted a key, and put it back together!

well here goes had a few days away from it...

I pulled it apart again and lined up the balance shaft gear with the original mark that i made before taking it all apart.

all back together and started up.. and seems to have quietened down.... it did do that the other day though and as soon as i took it for a run it started whining again.. i think some fresh oil and new filter over the next few days and see how it goes....

just hope its sorted now i hate being without this bike its my go to.. bike i been thinking of selling it next year if its all good and getting a honda nc750 dct version or a cb500x...

thanks all for sticking by me and the advice... its good to know theres a few of you on here i can call for help if i need. it

Oh good glad to hear it, you won`t be giving the engine a full strip down to inspect every bearing then?
