Ignition Cylinder for 97 Skorpion

Postby Javier_flow_88 » Fri Nov 15, 2013 7:20 pm

Hello everyone,

Kinda new to the forum, looking for help in obtaining a new ignition cylinder (and brand new set of keys I suppose) for a 97 Skorpion.

Browsed the forum, found out the ILCO key x270-tmc1 would match the size, asked a locksmith to get it done...couldn't get it done  Mentioned that it may be broken inside.

Would anyone know an interchangeable part for the ignition cylinder? I know the brand is a ZADI, and on the back its written PF385.

Had found some infor in the forums for ignition switches for a Baghira (ZADI Q933) from a BMW F650 1999. I thought that there may be something similar for the Skorpion...

Thanks,

Javier

i have worked on 3 Buell bikes with key problems all had the key broken off in them

Hello,

From what the locksmith mentioned, it's broken inside and could not create a key. Looking for a new ignition or a similar one of size to perhaps rewire it to the bike.

FWIW, I've removed 3 broken ignition keys in the last few years for various folks, 2 in cars and 1 in a bike, by the simple expedient of using a tiny dab of araldite on the broken stub, and then inserting it into the barrel so it snugly contacts the broken piece. Leaving it for 24hrs to give it a fighting chance of holding, has resulted in a successful (if gentle) withdrawal of the whole key shaft each time.

On the basis that the barrel's pretty much hors d'combat anyway - I suggest you've nothing much to lose by giving this a try .........................

Appreciate this was ages ago, but did anyone find out what the electronic part of the MZ 660 ignition switch has also been used for or what other one could be used?

It's made by ZADI.
I think it's a quiet standardized unit that could be found on various bikes.
I have an old one that you could have, but one cable is cut near the very unit, but I think it should be possible to open it up and to solder on a new cable.

Any word on getting a key switch part#? I’m in the middle of a rebuild & it’s the one aspect keeping me from moving forward. I’ve seen lots of posts about keys.. but no info on the keyswitch. Thanks,

B

As other advice, a lot of other bike manufacturers have used Zadi switches including some Triumphs and being Italian, Guzzi etc. Its just a matter of finding which one is the same as the Skorpion, yes, it's easier said than done. You might try taking it to a breakers to see if they have similar otherwise Motorworks (BMW) and Gutsibits (MotoGuzzi) I have found helpful. Or a Triumph dealer?
Good luck.
Riding it is much more fun than polishing it.
