Oh to be back in the old workshop-Take the splined bit and join it to the lever at the length i wanted, easy!

You`re using a lever only without a linkage are you,how are you getting on with it?

I do wonder if we`re missing something here-Why is a linkage there if it isn`t needed?

What do other similar Yamaha engines use?

standard pattern by law most areas is 1 down then 1 n 2 3 4 5 up

a straight lever results in 1 up then 1 n 2 3 4 5 down or a reverse pattern also called GP pattern

as rear sets reverse the shift

this motor because of the way its shift is made requires the reversing lever to get it to shift the way the law requires
for street use...

i made some good money when i was a kid making english bike conversions to get the shift and brake on the
proper side for usa street use the racers left them the english way

whooo , had an idea,, lets go tiptronic,,do away with the lever altogether and have an up down button on the handlebar, gear position indicator aswell,, its not a new idea , there are kits already available,,

anyways,, the gear lever from a YAMAHA FJ1200 looks close,

Hi.

Am i being thick?

I`ve looked at this linkage again this morning.
If the lever is pushed up(Rotated clockwise),the splined shaft also rotates clockwise.Only if a lever was put on the splined shaft facing`backwards`would the shift pattern be reversed, wouldn`t it?

Thanks for that!

Not familiar with XT singles other than the one in mine.Presumably`ours`has a larger lump on the LH side compared to earlier XTs,otherwise you could just fit one of these-

Is this any help?-
