Taking the Sport on a road trip, NYC -> Savannah

I am preparing my first road trip -- solo, unfortunately -- from NYC to Savannah. I am choosing a route that basically just hugs along the eastern seaboard. I plan to leave on Friday, Dec 18, with frequent layovers, couchsurfing style in Salisbury, MD; Kitty Hawk, Ocracoke, Wilmington, NC; Charleston, SC; and finally 5 days in Savannah from Dec 23 to 28. I will come back home via Charlotte, NC; Richmond, VA; and DC.

I am still looking for couchsurfing hosts. Let me know if you know of any couches to spare along any of these towns

Are there any scenic routes that I must do in this itinerary?

And, what is your suggestion, what mounting device do you use, for affixing a GPS or phone to the Skorp Sport?

After 16 days, 2228 miles and four ferry crossings, which took me from NY to NJ to DE-MD-VA-NC-SC-GA-SC-NC-VA-MD-PA to NJ-and back to NY, and from temperature ranging as low (and before windchill factor...) as 34 F to as high as 79 F, and with wind gusts from 0 to 24 mph, riding by the ocean, as well as high at 3500 meters, my first motorcycle trip is over.

Great photos! I was at the Poor Farmer's Market (Day 12) in Meadows of Dan, VA back in June. I have several friends that live nearby and the annual VA Moto Guzzi Rally is held just west at Willville Motorcycle Camp.

Sounds like a great trip. You must have lucked out with the weather big time. I remember being up on Skyline Drive in November a few years ago and it was nothing like that.

There is another thread that also covers taking a Sport on long trips - about six threads down - I have done a trip on my Sport with enough luggage to camp for a week end.

I suspect that I'm used to bikes, usually older, that carry enough kit for a couple of weeks - MZs, Beemers and XT Yamahas. The Skorpion isn't that kind of bike and it takes some adjustments in me.

Exactly what you see on the pics: just a pair of 50L saddlebags plus a duffle bag and sleeping bag.

I travelled very light and was couchsurfing the whole way. But I think my "luggage space" could probably have allowed my bringing materials for camping in the summer.

Don't follow trips much in the U.S. As I struggle to connect with areas I don't know but the trip and the pictures says you've had an interesting good time.
