MZ/MuZ Riders

Had a traveller for a year, most of the time it seems to be in the wrong gear, ( this is probably me, being dumb ),. The hand book says front sprocket 15t, rear sprocket 39t, but my rear is 38t. So what is best for gentle touring on A roads and occasional dual carriage way use, ( I tend to respect speed limits ).

where i run 60mph is about it for posted speed

43 on my traveller

some have said a 15 on the front puts to much pressure on the output shaft of transmission

Really depends on your style of riding,mainly touring and highway 15/39,commuting and running the hills 15/43, are what I found the best.

So standard gearing is 2.6:1, whilst mine is 2.33:1, and 16/43 will be 2.68:1. It would seem that my gearing is to high, will go to 15/39 when I go back on the road this spring, cheers chaps

Put the gearing back to standard, 15/39 and took it out for its first run this year. B and A roads 50 to 70mph, felt relaxed and mostly seemed to be the rights revs for the right gear and speed. Unless my riding improved over the winter lay off, ( I don't think so). happy traveller

The Skorpion's are definitely over geared as standard, 15/43 is the best for all round use.

Remember the engine is not a Thumper it has very little flywheel so needs to be revved to keep it smooth.

With the above gearing you can run 70-90 mph all day long, in the right country of course,
and better in town due to less snatching in the transmission.

thinking on running 16 / 43 on my baghira as i have 16 /45 at the moment and not enough top end...

any thoughts on this setup.... before i buy a new rear sprocket ?

I never topped more than 140-143 kph on standard 15/39 on my tour.
traffic work is a pain. Yesterday I installed 15/43 and the bike is transformed now.
I can now use the 5th 130+.
Alas I didn't have a stretch of road completely by myself so I couldn't test it 140+

As long as we're on the subject of sprockets, where are you guys getting your sprockets and chains? Would love to replace mine on my 98 Mastiff. Getting a little signs of hooking.
