Hi guys.

This is my first post :). Bought myself an Etz 125 91' Works fine, bit tatty on the paintwork and chrome, so I thought id give it a paint job.

So heres the question....

I got all the panels off, sissy bar etc, but I cant get the left panel off. I can see 3 screws holding the front part of the panel but I habent got any ideas of how to remove the whole thing. It seems to be housing what looks like an air filter.

Im new to bike mechanics and don't rly want to remove anything that I shouldnt, hence I thought Id ask you guys :D

So is there any simple ways to remove it? Where are the bolts roughly, etc.

it may be like my saxon tour from 1995 ..
you may have to go in behind the battery box and air filter from the right side to get to all the screws

the fellows that designed these did things different than other bikes ...you will notice this
often when working on one

Like Dave says above the screws to remove the nearside panel are deep inside the airbox. Here is a diagram that should help you to understand.

The airbox itself (9) is bolted to the frame and is sealed with a gasket (13). The air for the engine travels through the frame itself (which acts as an air damper) and enters the air filter through the square cutout. So, this central section stays attached to the frame and you can detach the left hand panel by unscrewing about 4 screws (where gasket 11 is located) that are INSIDE the airbox BEHIND where the filter sits.

Hope this makes it a bit clearer. It's quite a while since I completely stripped down (to bare frame) my ETZ251 but it all came flooding back to me.

Thanks guys. Looking at the diagram it looks very similar to the 125 so ill have a go at taking it off with the help of this diagram.

Thry didnt make it easy did they :D

If you think thats difficult try changing the plugs on a Kawasaki ER5.
First remove petrol pipes from carb,
unbolt fuel tap from frame,
remove seat,
remove both sidepanels,
unbolt tank,
lift tank and remove various vent pipes, and connector for fuel guage,
lift tank off feeding fuel tap between frame and airbox,
drain engine of coolant,
remove thermostat housing,
remove plug caps,
spend an hour getting rid of all the muck on top of the plugs,
remove spark plugs ( if you have a plug spanner long enough!)

makes you want a bmw 1976 r60/6 even if it is slow...at least it can be worked on!

i started working on things just after they made the first TONKA truck..
and grew up in a machine shop that did every thing including building prefab houses

That's why I also have a BMW R100RT, and Emzie the MZ, so I have somthing to ride whilst the ER5 is in bits!
