Barn find 1974 TS 250

Postby allkidd » Mon Dec 16, 2019 6:00 pm

Recently I purchased a 1974 TS 250. I don't know much about its history but it has sat for at least 10 years. Previous to purchasing this bike, I hadn't ever heard of MZ so this is all new to me. Also, this will be my first restoration.

I've always performed all the work on my modern two stroke dirt bikes, but I'm finding working on a vintage bike is a different game. I've always taken for granted the availability of parts, manuals, assistance, 6 volt, points etc.?? Currently, there is 6 inches of snow on the ground so I figure a restoration project is good therapy for not being able to ride my dirt bike!

It appears the bike is complete and in pretty good condition...other than sitting in a barn for at least 10 years. Everything including the chrome and paint appears that it will clean up nice.

I've debated where to start on the bike and how far to go. With a few new wires, I was able to establish that it has a spark. I'm tempted to clean the carb and see if I can get it started but wonder if I should check the engine out before running?

Would anybody recommend a good source for parts? At a minimum I will need all cables, brake pads, fork seals, wheel bearings, front blinker lens and probably many other items as I progress thru the project.

I haven't seen many of these for sale so I don't even have an idea of what is worth once running and in good condition?

Any help is sure appreciated and I'm hoping this is a good source of help as I progress thru my first restoration.

Following a biased and flawed moderator choice (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed - behind my back & without any justification!), I have withdrawn from this forum.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the sources for parts. Now finding parts won't be such an issue. If only I could read languages other than English!
