Key position and lights

Postby Lpo90 » Thu May 28, 2020 4:35 pm

Hi all, recently got back into MZ ownership. Iv bought a ETZ 250. When Turing the key once to start the bike no lights, then next turn only the rear light comes on no light on the front until I turn the key again when I get the dipped headlight and rear stays on. Is this correct as both my mzs now have not had a front sidelight. Hope it makes sense, thanks. Yeah

Hi there. Yes this is correct. But it leads me to simply believe your pilot/Side/park light bulb has blown (or is missing).. :)

Have not looked inside the lamp itself yet. So I should get a light at the front as well as the rear of the bike on the sidelight position.

Hi.

I have found in the owner's handbook:
ignitionpositions.jpg

You can find it in page 14 here:
ftp://blurredmanswebsite.ddns.net/Vehic ... ndbook.pdf

You use position 3 for tail and pilot lamp to be illuminated.
Position 4 for dipped beam. Position 0 is pilot lamps on, but ignition off.. For parking in an unlit road.

Cheers, seems my front pilot/sidelight isn’t working then. My previous etz was the same. Thank you.

It could be a broken/lown or missing bulb, but it could also be simply the cradle that the bulb sits in. The cradle sometimes doesn't make a good earth to the bulb, or even from the cradle to the headlamp surround itself.. In the past I have implemented an additional wire from the earth of the main bulb's connection and wedged the other end of the wire between cradle and headlamp to get it to work before.

Noticed your profile says your from South Wales and your website shows your orange mz. I am in cardiff, used to pass an orange ETZ on cowbridge Rd, culver house cross area, would this have been you?

Think I have seen you on your brown/purple one also? Through The city centre/riverside. Are you still riding them?

I sure am. But you wouldn't see me on the commute anymore as I enter Cardiff from the north.

The purple one just had a big service on it. And no, I didn't paint that bike. It's awful, but I didn't do it.. xD

You've probably seen my on an old ratty Honda CX500 too without realising it. I used to get about a lot with my job.
