New rear light

Postby Zed1 » Tue Nov 10, 2020 4:22 pm

Hi all , now this a stupid question but here goes , I've got a ts250/1 with sidecar hasn't run for a long time but have got her going but having trouble with the lights , rear is broken but I have a 12v one spare now the silly bit , apart from the bulbs why is it 12v ? If I put the 6v ones I know are good in will it work ? Cheers

if bike is 6volt them use 6v bulbs even better 6volt led as it will let your battery charge better

It definitely isn't a silly question.
Lights, switches etc made for 12v bikes usually have thinner wires than the 6v equivalent, and can be quite lossy if fitted to a 6v bike, causing dimmer lights especially indicators. If your spare lamp is from an ETZ this is probably not a problem, as the wires were quite thick. If its from some other bike check if the wires are thinner than the originals. You might just need to try it and see. Replacing the stop bulb with a led as DT suggests would help, as would creating a separate earth wire for the indicators.
