ETZ Rear stop light on always

Postby HENRY » Wed Dec 16, 2020 9:29 am

Hello,

An ETZ125: my rear stop light comes on (faded) when ignition is turned on. The red/black wire from it to fuse box 3rd right is the same terminal as the coil, also flasher unit.

Any ideas what is causing this, is the coil doing something to it?

I have a spare thick black mudguard wiring loom and I temporarily replaced this and the brake light still comes on faded. It shouldn't come on at all.

Thanks for any advice.

the coil hot end makes the wire hot it has a low grade short to ground
(earth) in the wires path to ground in the hub switch or your brake leaver may be turning it on a bit too soon
pedal free play is to small

I would again thank you for your replies and I am grateful for the constructive comments.

I am a very busy person and cannot always get around to having a look at my motorcycle due to the time factor. I am also generally very slow at progress with my bike.

If you are going to use abusive comments and write in a abusive manner perhaps it would be best that you do not reply at all and if you feel 'used' then perhaps don't reply to members questions?

I have also returned constructive comments on this site and other sites returning help without expectation from members.

I do not have to 'man up' to you or anyone, thank you and will not reply to any further comments from you as I do not know you personally.

Hi.

That reminds me.......Many years ago i had a 250 Supa five and the switch within the hub consisted of a bit of bent steel (the other end of which had a terminal that the brake wire connects to) that the cam earthed to power the stop light.
That bit of bent steel sat in a plastic insulating sleeve which could deteriorate and `leak` electrically to earth making the brake light come on dimly. If yours is similar that could be it, good luck!

Cheers

I once had something similar in the switch in the F brake handle of my ETZ. Pull the spade & you'll know; takes 1.73 seconds.
