I'm glad you've seemingly got your problem solved.. So I take it you're still on your 'temporary' carburettor at the minute?

So now I suppose we need to really inspect that original carb? The needle is broken maybe at the tip? different lengths? ALL passageways (mainly the air I suppose) are definately clear etc? Intruiging.... and annoying.. but good that you found WHAT is the issue- and that you didn't give up.

Yep, still running on the loan / temporary carb.

As regards the old carb it has all new jets & needle, fuel level has been checked, passageways blown through - all many many times.

The only thing I have found is the taper on the air screw, mine has a much shallower angle than the one in the temporary carb, so I though re fit old card and change to air screw from the other carb - starts / runs / dies, put the temp carb back on with its air screw, runs perfectly.

Absolutley no idea what is wrong with my carb, think I will probably end up binning it, but not until I have used it for some air gun practice - wondering what damage a .22 wil do to it :-D

Is your old carb an original BVF?

You think the taper is incorrect? Perhaps someone has ground in the screw far too harshly and done something.. But if that's the case, you could get away with having the screw at like 1/4 turn instead of 1 ?

Anyway- I'm sure you'll find another carb, for some reason people like to replace bvf carbs in the UK like they're a consumable item...  And then replace them with even worse Asian made rubbish.

I have first hand experirnce of the Asian rubbish - one came with the ETZ that I bought a few years back, very, very badly made, that ended up in the bin, managed to source the proper BVF one from E-Bay.

As for mine, I have a feeling that someone may have ran a drill through the air way that the air screw sits in - I'll check with the shank of a drill on the 2 carbs that I have, I will also try replacing the shut off valve which as you say may be staying open due to vibration when the engine is running.

I will exhaust all posibilities before subjecting the carb to the firing squad.

IMHO these carbs look pretty well made, and my non working one is showing very little signs of wear so I dont really want to bin it untill I have exhausted all posibilities.

Anyway the new rear tyre is on it now, might pop out for a few miles later, now clocked up 20 trouble free miles, to be honest if it was going to play up I think it would have by now.

Puffs - I will most likley try the valve and air screw.

If that fails I will ask if it wants to be blindfolded before facing the firing squad
