Hi everyone,
Newbie to both the forum and the bikes, I have just purchased a 1985 ts125, my Dad owned one new when I was growing up, and it was the last bike he was allowed after being taken out by a car, his 70th is coming up in 18 months and I thought it maybe a nice retirement gift for him, I was just wondering where the UK enthusiasts get parts from as the one I got was cheap, but had had bits stripped to finish the guys other project, so I am currently trying to work out what’s needed, while I strip and repaint all the metal work. I’m sure over the course of this project I will be seeking further advice.

Good luck I recommend the MZ Shop in the UK for spares - just google MZ Shop, the guy that runs it, Phil Speakman is a really helpful guy, then there is E-bay of course.

I have trawled through ebay, there's a few bits on there I need, but it's more for little rubbers, nuts and bolts, levers, cables, wiring etc, I will have a look at your suggestion, there's no rush, I'm not even sure what I need yet, just gathering some resources

So this is basically what I bought, it's rusty, dirty and looking into the history hasn't been on the road much at all, it's a 1985 model and never went for its first Mot, so guessing it's been off the road pre 1990..... I paid &£130 for it there are some new parts. There is also a ful spare frame, 2 tyres, headlamp cover, and rear shocks so I don't think it was a bad buy.

Looking good...! What are you going to do..? Build it up first and see what's what? It looks like you've got pretty much everything there...

Hi blurredman,
Yours looks like a fun project too, I'm going to strip everything back to bare metal, fix, fill and prime, then loosely build up, then full strip and reassemble the engine and box see how bad that is, then source what I need, then painting is my last priority, still unsure on what clolour to paint her, whether to keep the chrome bits, I live the Eastern block styling, but chrome and dull colours I'm not sure, I am debating replacing chrome detail with white or cream, then main colour of baby blue or a yellow or orange..... I don't know what people thoughts are on this

but a friend of mine fell off his bike and got his boot caught in it
and is not a happy camper with racks

Looks good. I'm not much of one for restorations. Everyone knows I ride sheds. But that's because I'm lazy, and also too tight with my money..


I have racks on all my bikes (except my Suzuki TS185), however they all have boxes too. There is a small rack for my ES250 but I'm not sure if I will actually affix that to the bike. Looks a bit puny for a 50l Rickman

I love the bins section of this chat we have 4, they plan to give us another for food waste too, it's a pain in the ass, yeah I wasn't keen on the rack either looks a bit too big, I will still paint it up and sell it, someone may want it.
Yes I know there is a lot of work, but as I say for the price I thought it was worth the risk, I just know, as happens on most of my car projects the more I dig the more I'll find wrong or missing, but it's not a project if its easy is it?

Possibly one of the reasons why MZs remain popular (hence valuable) is that you can buy everything for them.

The thing is with projects is that as Puffs has said, they are normally taken apart for a reason (or maybe more than one reason). It would be nice to think they were simply taken apart to just rebuild and tart up/paint etc, but most of the time this is not the case.

Why did the previous owner take this bike into it's constituent pieces in the first place? That is a question! Maybe indeed just to tart it up?


4 for what items? I chuck everything for the most part into the recycling bin and just make sure there is cardboard on-top. Sometimes they rifle through it and don't accept it and I have to wait another week, but otherwise sometimes i just take it back out the next week and they take it anyway (presumably don't check). I put all sorts of things in black bags for the one bin. I pay a fee for this, So I don't mess around- they can take it, and one way or the other they DO.
