New TS125 owner

Postby AndyP66 » Sun Oct 17, 2021 3:50 pm

Hi All
Thought I would introduce myself. I am ANDY 55 yr old vintage enthusiast, who loves all things old, mostly the 1940s.

Brought a 1979 TS125 last week. It’s my first bike as apart from a brief period 15yrs ago I haven’t ride a bike let alone a vintage one. I know very little about motorcycles so expect plenty of questions in the future, which I will apologise for now.

As I said the motorcycle is a 1979 TS125. Overall in good condition. But will be going through a colour change during the winter, which might go against some purists. But will explain in more detail later. At the motor the bike will start but does cut out even when warmed up. It appears that when I fully close the throttle the bike will not tick over , so any advise on the problem is appreciated.

Hi Andy, welcome to our nightmare. Is your Ts 125 a lux or Alpine model?
The Alpine model, had no chrome on the side of the fuel tank. It never had a revolution counter, only a front light mounted speedometer
.Same rolling chassis and engine/brakes. A rear spindle fitted side stand, was also a optional extra.
Hope you find the carburator adjustment (on the O/s) along with the air petrol screw.
Unless your model had the tick over controled by throttle cable adjustment. But the carburator will only have the one adjustment screw.
You should be able to download a group of files (for a Ts 125) from this site, to assist you with your plight.

Hi Gerryman.
I guess my is the Alpine model as it doesn’t have the chrome on the tank. Plus it has the headlight with the speedo mounted into it.
Not going to get much time to look at the bike again till the weekend. I have found the one adjustment screw on the left side of the carb and the choke is fitted to the handle bars. But appears to slide back to closed on its own

Just slacken the screw holding the choke lever onto the handlebars, and either put grease or oil into the inside of lever where the cable comes in. Then retighten it to the handlebars and screw it in until it stays on. One more problem with the choke cable, is the little piston that operates the choke seizes or jams, causing the end of the cable to shear off. But I took mine apart and cleaned it off and replaced the end (with a brake cable end crimped onto the cable) and it worked great. One thing about Mz's is you can repair them simply.

Thanks again for the guidance.

Got her started again tonight. But she is still cutting out when the throttle is fully closed. Tajen the battery off to make sure it’s fully charged. Is there adjustment for the throttle cable? If so would this solve the cut out issue when I close the hand throttle fully.

some bikes// not all set idle by leaving no free play

do pay attention to cable routing on all types so it does not give it more fuel in a turn

Thank you all that have responded to my posts. I really appreciate the advice.

I will need to read them all a few times to get my head around what I am being told. Sorry for this, but like I said I am new to motorcycle ownership. Hoping I can get it sorted as I don’t want to be put off the pleasure of owning a vintage bike so soon.

If you require assistance, at least one (or more of the Avengers) will heed your call. Having a pdf of a Ts 125 does help, when one or more of us is lying in bed recovering from a night on the tiles. Just ask away. We're the fourth emergency service :-D

Being new to the forum, I think I am lost in your terminology lol.

Might need to explain who the avengers are etc.
