TS250 Downpipe leak

The TS now seems to be running really well, only downside is that it blows oil out around the downpipe where it mates with the cylinder.

I gather that TSs dont use a copper gasket like the ETZs so mine is currently assembled without a gasket.

If I fit a copper gasket it puts the pipe out of alignment with the silencer.

I think that mine may have an ETZ exhaust collar fitted as it screws all the way in leaving no threads exposed, I believe that the TS exhaust collar is longer - wondering of perhaps it is bottoming out before it can apply enough pressure to seal the joint.

Any / all thoughts welcome, aside from the oil leak it is a joy to ride.

It doesn't seem to me like theres much of a difference between the two collars.
On mine (withot the copper gasket) there is very little thread exposed.

I had the leaking issue on my TS as well.
I tried the copper and aluminium gaskets, had no issue fitting them. But they just didn't seal. Itried flattening the header surface, thightening the header carefully in multiple stages, making sure it is as centered as possible, but no luck. Used up a handful of gaskets, but the leak persisted.

The best solution I found was to use high temp rtv. In my case Abro 999 grey, but any rtv that withstands close to, or more than 300°C will work. I put a decent layer between the header and nut, and a bit on the thread itself. Worked perfectly. Been like that for over a year, not even a drop of oil since.

Kruh.

Took it apart this afternoon, with the collar screwed right in I can it does not clamp the pipe firmly to the head so I am going to order a TS250 collar.

I will apply some RTV as suggested, when I re assemble.

Thanks.

Puffs - it does look like the collar is bottoming out before it fully clamps the pipe in place.

I have tried a spacer - an old gasket on the pipe before fitting the collar but it leaked even worse.

Plan is to get a new TS collar and fit using some RTV.

I'll also make sure it is torqued up properly - I know the recommended torque value is quite high if I remember correctly.

My old ETZ never leaked at all, and since I hate the sight of oil dribbling down the pipe it has to be fixed :-D

If you could post a picture I could tell you if your collar is ETZ or TS.
Is the downpipe original or reproduction ?

Thanks for your offer - I'll try and post up a photo of both the collar and pipe this evening.

Cheers.

There are a few coller types. In particular one whereby the threaded section is shorter in length, and the area whereby application of using the C-spanner, is shouldered- this obviously prevents it going in so far.

All of mine have the type whereby there is no shoulder, in the past i've had a problem or two with the ETZ251, whereby i've put a large ring of PTFE between the pipe flange and the exhaust coller, but in recent years i've never had trouble getting the pipe in place and the exhaust nut done up all the way so that the PTFE was required. I don't use any washers either on all three of my MZ's.

You have a TS 250 collar.
The ETz 250 is longer.

That collar does not look right. There should be more material sticking out past the treads.
That one looks like its been shortened.
Or is this a difference between Ts 250 ans 250/1 collars?

On my TS/1 it looks like the one in this the picture:
