You are right, it seems that it has been shortened.
To show the different collars, here a picture.

Guesi - thanks no idea there was such a range of exhaust collars.

My new one should be arriving today.

It arrived today - looks exactly like the one in the picture that Kruh posted up - the second one in from the left that Guesi posted, so it is the right one.

The new one was about 5mm longer than the old one and had the small unthreaded protrusion on it, which did not exists on the old one, for whatever reason.

Put it all back together this afternoon, with a little RTV as suggested, torqued it up nice and tight.

Hopefully take it on a run over the weekend, and hopefully there will be no "spooge" (good name isnt it - the guys on the Kawasaki Triple site that I post on use that term) leakiing down the pipe.

We shall see.

Good news and good luck to you! :-D I personally don't mind the oil dribble, but then the state of my bike's (in general and) exhausts means it might be beneficial to me to have oil covering the metal for further rust prevention...

Following a biased and flawed moderator choice (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed - behind my back & without any justification!), I have withdrawn from this forum.

Took it out for a short - 5 miles or so ride this afternoon - no spooge !

Thanks once again for everyones help, bit busy with other stuff at the moment, but around about mid April I should be able to start putting some proper miles on the bike.

Seems to peform a lot better than my old ETZ used to.

I have the same problem on my 1979 TS125. So watching this thread with interest.

Andy - if you look at the picture that Guesi posted up you will be able to see which collar is the right one for your bike.

Good luck.

Andy C posted a photo of his exhaust pipe. Here's a dimensioned photo of mine. Unfortunately it does not fit when mounted, being about 3/4 inch too high for the clamped silencer. Any ideas? It's a pattern part, of course, but suppliers who have been kind enough to measure their stock say that they are all like this.

I would say that the header that you have has too tight a bend in it.

Looking at the picture with it fitted to your bike, it is much closer to the engine case than mine - it looks to be about half the diameter of the pipe too high.

I would say that the header is the wrong one or has been bent at some point in it's life.

Best bet would be to see if the MZ shop or E bay has one.

Cheers.

It had slipped my mind, but a similar TS header issue came up earlier: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=11790&start=15
