mick -
I agree wholeheartedly with Puffs - I find the biggest single influence on how easy (or difficult) a tyre change might be is ambient temperature. I've fitted all my own tyres and tubes for decades, and try to avoid doing any such work at cooler times of the year. Not always possible, I know, but you can help the situation by warming up the tyre indoors, or using a warm air gun, maybe.
Another factor is the use of proper tyre lube, definitely not washing-up liquid, WD40, or the like. This can be available at motorist accessory shops, or maybe you can scrounge some from your friendly neighbourhood tyre shop the next time you buy tyres for the car.
If ever I'm struggling to fit a tyre I tend to take a step back and ask myself "What am I doing wrong ?" and if you are lacking manual strength a second pair of hands can also be a great help.

Thanks everyone.
I got the tyre on yesterday with the help of a lot of the chalk I usually use and a warmed up workshop, and it took about 35.40 minutes. It was down to me being a weak ninny and not trying enough so I feel a bit ashamed of myself. Now I can get the bike back to the house for a good wash and inspection and the removal of the rear speed master MK2 Great joy!!

Favourite trick of mine for tyre changing has been to use sex lubricants like KY Jelly. They are water based, contain no salt to damage chrome or alloy, and are guaranteed not to rot rubber (for obvious reasons). The slippiness is legendary, the tyres almost fall on.

I am in a bit of a quandary about having the frame blasted and powder coated as I hear the swinging arm spindle can be a nightmare to remove and I don't think my bad back could take it. Can I ask if anyone has had experience of renewing the bushes and such.

Recent experience says they either come out easily or destroy the frame in the process.

I have yet to succesfully install the rubbers, I just buy pre installed.

I came across a you tube film of a guy replacing them on an older model MZ using some home made aids and a home press, but I think I will leave them alone and let my friend make the decision when he gets the bike.

I removed the rear wheel bearings from the bike today and as I pulled the drum side bearing I found a shim washer stuck to the inner race I hadn't noticed before. I don't know if it was on the inside or outside of the bearing. Does anyone know. Ta

I have cleaned up the bearings and I am going to refit them into the hub with the spacer and see where we are end float wise between the bearings. Ta

Can I ask if a ETZ 250/1 rear wheel complete with brake back plate and QD hub can be fitted to my TS 250/1 ? Ta
