Thanks Andy

That's all useful stuff. Doing a lot of checking at the moment.

I'll update in a few days, as I'm away for a week or so.

Pete.

Puffs

Thanks very much for all that info and images.

My slide looks very different to yours as you see. Also, the depth of the chamfer on the base is 5mm. This is when measured in the same way you have in your image.

Does my slide look familiar at all?

Apologies for the multiple picture postings. I couldn't see how to load more than one at a time.

Pete.

Interesting!

My slide also only fits one way.

Time to try a different carb I think. If only as part of the process of elimination.

Pete.

UPDATE:

I'm pleased to say that I have finally got to the bottom of the ongoing 'bogging' problem with the Supa 5. This is due largely to some much appreciated advice from Andrew Long from the MZ Riders Club.

After spending a lot of time removing the carb for cleaning, checks and various combinations of adjustments with needle heights and jet sizes etc, Andrew suggested looking at the size and profile of the needle. I had already bought a new needle, but I hadn't fitted it, as apart from a difference in length of at maximum, 1mm, it seemed to compare very much to the original needle when measuring the diameter and various stages along the length. I'm very surprised to find that what must be subtle differences could make such a difference.

Andrew's experience was that the production of the needles fitted to the carbs was a little variable, shall we say.

The running of the bike has been transformed, and is much more relaxed. I previously had to accelerate through the dead throttle range, to above 3,000rpm, but now I can short shift through the gears at lower revs, and be able to pull up hills at lower revs without having to change down so often.

One thing I have learned over the years of riding and maintaining a wide variety of bikes is that, the more you learn, the more you realise there is yet to learn. But that's what maintains the interest I guess?

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. It's good to reach a positive outcome, and be able to enjoy the bike to it's full potential.

Pete.

That sounds very good! It can be difficult indeed to find the differences between original and aftermarket components, esspecially on something as small and intricate as the needle, for example.

That's definitely something I think i'll look out for in the future too if need be. Thanks for coming back and updating us!

Puffs no longer posting is a big loss to this forum.

Although I no longer have an MZ I still keep an eye on the forum and make the occasional posting where I think it may help.

Whoever has upset Puffs should be ashamed of themselves.

I wonder if anyone will own up to this and or give their version. This is very very sad and a great loss.
