MZ/MuZ Riders

OK, I was just given a 1974 MZ TS250. It is super clean and has only 37 miles on it. I am in need of two pieces of information.

First what are the 6 positions of the ignition switch on the head light.

I also need a wiring diagram. I have a book but the wiring diagram is to small to make out.

I am really looking forward to getting her running any help would be great.

OK from full right the postions are
1)Emergenvy start .. allows bike to be started with a flat battery on a bump start in 2nd gear
2) Parking. Rear light and pilot light on, key removable
3) OFF Key removable
4) Ignition on lights off
5)Ignition on pilot light and tail light on
6)Ignition on headlight on tail light on

Ill look and see Im sure Ive got a printable colour wiring diagram somewehere on this computer!

Copy this one and get it printed up A3 size, laminate it and nail it to the wall!

ok what is a bump start? Is that a kick slang

Push starting, also known as bump starting, pop starting or crash starting is a method of starting a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine by engaging the manual transmission through the motion of the vehicle. The technique is most commonly employed when other starting methods (automobile self starter, kick start, etc) are unavailable.

The most common way to push start a car is to put the transmission in second gear, switching the ignition on, applying the clutch, and pushing the car until it is at a speed of around 5 to 10 mph (8 to 16 km/h). This can be done by one person on a motorcycle

ok i understand now but do your lights work and what not in this position?

how do you turn a ham into a radio? JK but i took wiring it just took a lot of staring at a mass of wires for it to come back to me. It also dosent help when you have 2 different countries working on one bike.

No in the emergency start position only the ignition works. But once the engine is running, you can quickly move the switch round to the left and you will get lights. And if the charging system and battery are OK on the bike you will keep going ( I know I did this a few times when I rode my MZ all over the UK and a few trips to Europe!)

Ok I got the battery in and have lights. I am getting fuel but she still isn't fireing. I many have spark issues. I will have to put the meter on it.

Well I got her to fire, but not run. So that is a good sign. I guess I pull the carb back off and re-adjust everything. I was alos thinking about replacig the coil and cap. What is a good upgrade to the HT coil?

Try one off a 1970's BMW, as these use 2 6volt coils in series, they are made by Bosch.

been using those coils from a bmw since 1970
have never had a bad one

Betsy the BMW was 30 years old yesterday, still on the original coils. ( Now thats tempting fate!)
