Es250/2 clutch cover

Postby Dzundzun » Sun Apr 08, 2012 3:46 pm

Evening all.

The resoration is nearly done but I have come up against a problem replacing the clutch cover (cw with new gasket courtesy of Fred Rogers). Try as I might, I cannot bet the b*gger on. If I remove the clutch actuation mechanism, it fits a treat so it's clearly something there fouling? Am I missing summat here?

I know the bearing in the clutch actuator can be quite a tight fit on the crank. The MZ manual recommends tapping with a plastic hammer. Unless there is a burr on the crank I can't think of anything that will stop it going on.

Thanks. The manual and the youtube service vids (ETZ but basically the same engine) say that the cover should be fitted with the mechanism in situ in the cover. I've been doing it with the mechanism fitted to the clutch since I can't get it to stay in the cover doing it the other way. I'll have another go the recommended way. Nice Pannonia by the way and is that VoPo ES250 yours? It's a cracker. :D

I wish the VoPo was mine, unfortunately its just one of my many MZ photos culled from tinterweb. I'll post a couple of other oddities as time permits. Fitting the cover is one of those three handed jobs but persevere with it and remember... use the plastic hammer not the 2lb club hammer :D

OK. Sorted now. Next question: what oil to use for the gearbox? Manual recommends GL60 which I suspect is now manufatcured in Unobtainia! Failing that a straight 40 grade. What do the folk here use?
