Kanuni ETZ 251 lights

Postby puckshole » Fri Apr 27, 2012 10:52 pm

My Kanuni 251 ( Year 2000 ) seems to have a lighting fault .
The rear light is on all the time when ignition is on . The rest of the lights work fine when the key is turned to the 2nd position . I wonder if that is the way its been wired at the factory or do I have a fault somewhere .

Your thoughts please

1 is your brake lamp switch stuck
some bikes are wired so that circuit is hot all the time.
or at first key position..

2 or it may have been wired for headlamp on at any run position
and was changed in where the headlamp was plugged in .
but the tail was not

3 in some areas the parking lamp is the run headlamp in well lighted city's at dusk or all the time
but the tail lamp is on

where i live headlamp on all the time is required ...so on the bikes with small generators
i have installed a special 20 watt bulb in the parking lamp position. then at night
it is off and the full head lamp is on my tail lamp is off in daylight but brake lamp is active
this is done so the battery on the old BMW /2 r50s battery stays charged as i run a 6 volt h4 55/60 watt bulb at night

Dave

after rereading this
position 1 may be the parking lamp position and the front parking bulb is not wired or out
or in the area where bike was sold only needs to work on the rear

Many thanks David for your advice . When I get to the bike again at the weekend I will have a look at the ign switch , as you say without a wiring diagram its all abit hit or miss.
Having never had a bike this new I thought maybe Turkey got strange lighting laws .

Many thanks again

lots of places have strange lighting laws

i have a BMW R50S title is 1963 built by bmw in sunner 1961 ??

when i got it in 1974 it was a mess in a basket

when i rewired it with my custom harness it was better

the original wire loom had 27 wires going from the headlamp shell to the main frame
??? may have had a police bike harness
when i got done it had 7 and every thing worked
what a mess
getting ready to rebuild it AGAIN when i retire

Hi, a bit after the event with this I'm afraid......I bought a Kanuni 251 in '96 and the pilot light/tail light were wired to come on as soon as the ignition was switched on, I guess it was an attempt at having a running light of sorts. I tried using a higher wattage bulb in mine but it used to burn out quite quickly, so I just got in the habit of riding with the headlight on. Any of you guys know if a blue 251 with a Burwins 300 motor reg'd P103 FFL still haunts the roads?? I picked up a slightly scruffy 251 Saxon Tour today, so I'm back in the fold
it's a long road that has no turnips......

According to the DVLA website P103 FFL cannot be found, so not on the road, possibly scrapped.

IF people treat bikes as poorly in the UK as they do where i live ....
its a wonder there not all in the scrap BIN

i saw an 18 month old BMW K75 with 70,000 miles on it...

at almost 4000 miles a month what was he up toooooo???

about 80mph most of the time
