lowering the ride

I recently acquired a 301 Saxon which is great, but as I am vertically challenged it would be even better if I could lower the seat height a tad. Does anyone have any experience of doing this, repositioning the rear shocks? shorter rear shocks? lower profile tyres? etc, etc.
I am aware of the effects on steering of doing this, but feel it is worth experimenting with.
